Chicago Kia Soul dealer loves how Kia company honored determined grandmother
If this story doesn’t make you want to buy a Kia – shame on you! Your Chicago Kia Soul dealer thinks it’s sweet and so will you (most of you, anyway). Antioch used cars customers will appreciate it as well.
We often hear about how auto makers donate millions of dollars to scholarship funds, community programs or environmental causes, but we rarely hear the one-on-one stories that really reveal the heart of a company. We begin in the home country of the automaker – South Korea.
There lives a 69-year-old grandmother named Ms. Cha Sa-soon who wanted to be able to drive her grandchildren to the zoo. She had grown up in a poor family with little education and could not read well, but she was determined to take the driver’s exam and get a license.
Working in the fields in her younger years had not really prepared her to take the 100-question exam, but she took the bus from her mountain village an hour to the town of Jeonju to give it a go. She didn’t pass it the first time, or the second. Not even the third. This sweet, determined grandma took the test an unbelievable 960 times.
She had no trouble driving, but the 40 multiple choice questions on the written test were so difficult that she could not get through them. She continued to study the books and tried to memorize the answers. Finally, after 960 attempts, she passed with 60 correct answers out of 100. (She passed the driving portion all but four times.)
Eventually, she began getting some attention in the press after she had failed the driver’s test 700 times, and when Hyundai/Kia heard about Ms. Sa-soon’s determination to get her license they wanted to help her out and reward her for her hard work.
In the meantime, she finally earned her license and Hyundai began an online campaign. Rather than try to get her on Saturday Night Live, they asked people to send her messages of congratulation. After receiving thousands of messages from all over, this grandmother also received a new Kia Soul from the company.
Your dealer of Antioch used cars has a good selection of pre-owned Hyundai and Kia models to choose from and at an affordable price. Of course, most of the new Kia and Hyundai models you price will be within your budget as well.
Chicago Kia Soul customers should be proud that they support a company with a heart. But don’t get any ideas. If you go in and fail your driver’s test 100 times, you probably won’t get a free car, and I’m not sure any of us have the stamina to get to 960 like Ms. Sa-soon.
