Mercedes-Benz has signed with Federer to represent its brand as it also begins a sponsorship of the U.S. Tennis Open Championship, which begins in August. Federer has been a Mercedes-Benz “ambassador” in China since 2008 and Mercedes-Benz has been promoting its vehicles through the tennis circuit for more than 15 years, so this partnership just makes sense. The deal with Federer covers several years and the use of this image, personal appearances and product placement.
Not only with the tennis connection be an ace with many Mercedes customers, but the association with a major tennis figure like Federer will carry weight with a younger crowd and bring many of them to the showroom who might not otherwise have considered the Mercedes-Benz brand.
When if comes to tennis, several major brands have been associated with certain tournaments and players for years. Lacoste has been a major sponsor of the French Open for many years and Slazenger, a British sports equipment maker, has been affiliated with Wimbledon for 108 years!
